A few years ago, I just quit my job as a branch manager of a manufacturing firm where I worked for two years in Nigeria. Upon getting home. I broke the news to an uncle of mine, expecting some motivation and succor.
He laughed so hard, he almost fell over the balcony. When he was done, he looked at me and said: So what do you want to do with your life now? It was a very embarrassing to say the least; however; I understood why he spoke in such a manner.
You see, I did not have any other job at that time. So I was at home for a couple of weeks even months. Until, one day; I had a “Light-bulb” moment. I approached a school to be their Computer training Teacher.
I was qualified, of course, I had previous training and certifications a few years earlier in that field. I wanted a full-time job, but I was offered part-time. I was devasted, but I didn’t stop there, the very next day; I approached another school offering the same service, they agreed to my terms.
Eventually, I ended up having up to five schools where I offered the same service. One school per day. One teacher, five schools, same wage. I ended up making more than thrice of my pay has a “Branch manager”
Now, I still couldn’t afford a car. But I was able to raise enough capital to start a computer engineering training institute of my own, also bringing in extra income. Well, that’s not a lot you may say. But you see that experience taught me something.
There are going to be circumstances in your life; that would make you doubt yourself, your future and your ability. People may have told you why they think your aspirations will fail. You know what? that’s also part of the process for your development.
In the Movie Forest Gump , played by Tom Hanks; he was portrayed as a man “written off “. One who was supposed to be useless and could not be anything or anyone of any significance to say the very least. But we find that; he exceeded every expectation.
David in the bible was a Shepard boy, dirty, unkempt and smelly (most of the time) for he was always with the sheep. However, that stage of his life was important in the fulfillment of his final purpose for his life.
David learnt resilience, tenacity, compassion and boldness among the sheep. He fed them, protected them and guided them. All the skills that became very handy for him as the young king in Judah. Now, Saul could not have succeeded as David did, simply because he didn’t have the preparation that David had.
Every stage of your life in very crucial to who you eventually become. They mould you, they may leave a scar. But they will make you one day a star. What you must never do is accept that stage is who you are.
Never let circumstances define your personality. It would be a serious injustice to yourself and the world out there that waits patiently for your shinning. You are wonder, a star; a flower, you have an inner beauty, a bigger purpose. Its okay if you don’t look like that now, if you don’t give in; very soon the whole world will stand in applause for someone….and it would be You.
